FAMILY SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Family Spinsorship is a way for citizens and permanent residents over the age of 18 to sponsor their relatives to come to Canada.

FAMILY SPONSORSHIP CATEGROIES

SPOUSE or PARTNER

Sponsor Your Spouse, Common-Law Partner, Conjugal Partner as a permanent resident

PARENTS or GRANDPARENT

Sponsor your parents and grandparents to come to Canada as a permanent resident

DEPENDENT CHILD

Sponsor your dependent children as a permanent resident 

SPOUSE OR COMMIN-LAW PARTNER

A permanent Canadian resident or citizen may sponsor their non-Canadian spouse or common-law partner after they have been approved by the IRCC. Candidates in same sex relationships are also considered by the Canadian government. Sponsorships can be through the Outland or Inland Sponsorship.

Eligibility Requirements As a Sponsor

  • At least 18 years old

  • A Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or a permanent resident living in Canada

  • Able to prove that you are not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability, and

  • Have enough income to provide for basic needs of any grandchildren (dependent children of a dependent child) of the principal applicant.

Eligibility Requirements As a Applicant

  • Must prove that their relationship with their sponsor

PARENTS OR GRANDPARENTS SPONSORSHIP

This program allows parents and grandparents to apply for permanent residence in Canada, and later conceivably earn Canadian citizenship, if they meet all requirements set by IRCC. Potential sponsors must submit documents online in order to qualify as one of the 10,000 sponsors that are invited to apply for this sponsorship.

Eligibility Requirements As a Sponsor

  • At least 18 years old

  • A Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or a permanent resident living in Canada

  • Able to prove that you are not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability, and

  • Have enough income to provide for basic needs of any grandchildren (dependent children of a dependent child) of the principal applicant.

Eligibility Requirements As a Applicant

  • Must prove that their relationship qualifies under one of three categories: Spouse, Common-law Partner or Conjugal Partner

DEPENDENT CHILD SPONSORSHIP

This sponsorship applies to both adopted and natural born children, so long as both sponsors and children receive approval from IRCC. The Dependent Child Sponsorship gives candidates the chance to become permanent residents and to study and work in Canada.

Eligibility Requirements As a Sponsor

  • At least 18 years old

  • A Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or a permanent resident living in Canada

  • Able to prove that you are not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability, and

  • Have enough income to provide for basic needs of any grandchildren (dependent children of a dependent child) of the principal applicant.

Eligibility Requirements As a Applicant

  • Under 22 years old

  • They don’t have a spouse or common law partner

  • Children 22 years old or older qualify as dependants if they meet both of these requirements:

  • They are unable to financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition

  • They have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22
